GE Appliance Repair FAQs
Here are the questions GE owners in Southern Ontario ask us most, with straight answers from our technicians.
-
My GE fridge is warm but the freezer still works. Is that a compressor issue?
Usually not. This is the most common GE refrigerator call we get, and the cause is almost always in the freezer-to-fridge airflow path: a failed evaporator fan motor, a defrost system that’s let ice cover the evaporator, a stuck damper, or a bad thermistor feeding the control board. The compressor is running — the cold just isn’t getting to the fresh-food side. Newer GE Profile and Café models with inverter compressors can also show this symptom from a failed inverter board rather than the compressor itself.
-
Do you repair GE Profile and Café appliances?
Yes. GE Profile and Café use more electronics than base GE lines — inverter compressors, touch controls, WiFi modules and additional sensors — so the failures skew toward control boards, inverters and sensors rather than mechanical parts. We diagnose at the board level and don’t replace electronics on a guess.
-
What do F2, F3, F7 or F9 mean on my GE range or oven?
F2 is an over-temperature fault — the oven got hotter than the control asked for, usually a shorted temperature sensor or a stuck relay on the board. F3 means the oven sensor reads open, F4 shorted; the sensor is inexpensive and we test it first. F7 is a stuck or shorted key on the control panel. F9 is a door-lock circuit fault, common after a self-clean cycle. Most GE range codes come down to the sensor, the lock or the electronic range control (ERC) board.
-
Why won’t my GE top-load washer spin or agitate?
On the current GE top-loaders (GTW series and similar), the lid lock is the first suspect — if the lock doesn’t confirm, the washer fills and drains but never spins. After that: a failed drive motor or motor control board, a worn belt on belt-drive models, or a shifter/mode-shifter fault that stops the drum from switching between agitate and spin. Older GE washers with the classic transmission usually fail at the motor coupler or the clutch. All of these are one-visit repairs if the part is on the van.
-
Why is my GE dishwasher not draining, or showing PF?
Not draining is usually a clogged filter or sump, a kinked drain hose, or a failed drain pump. GE dishwashers also commonly develop a leak at the sump gasket or the water inlet valve. PF on the display just means a power interruption occurred and is cleared by cancelling the cycle. A dishwasher that fills, hums and doesn’t spray has a failed wash pump motor — a common GE failure that’s still worth repairing on most models.
-
Why is my GE dryer running but not heating?
On GE electric dryers, the heating element coil breaks or the high-limit thermostat and thermal fuse open because of restricted airflow. A dryer that heats but takes two cycles usually has a lint-blocked vent or a failing moisture sensor. We replace the failed part and clean the full internal lint path on the same visit, because a restricted vent is what caused the failure and will do it again.
-
Are GE parts available in Canada?
Yes. GE appliances sold in Canada are distributed and supported by Mabe (GE Appliances Canada), and parts for current and recent models are readily stocked by Canadian suppliers. Our vans carry the common GE fan motors, thermostats, elements and dishwasher pumps. For anything else we order by your exact model number from the rating plate and return to install it with no second service call fee. Parts for GE appliances older than about 15 years are hit-and-miss; we check availability before recommending a repair.
-
Is my older GE appliance worth repairing?
Often yes, especially the older mechanical washers, dryers and electric ranges — a single motor, element or switch can add years to them. Older GE fridges are worth repairing for fan, defrost and thermistor failures; a sealed-system failure on a basic top-mount usually isn’t. Newer GE Profile fridges with inverter compressors are worth repairing because the replacement cost is high. We’ll tell you which category you’re in before any work starts.
-
Do you repair GE appliances in my area?
