GE Dryer No Power Repair – Faulty Timer Replacement
This GE dryer repair was completed after a customer reported that their dryer suddenly stopped working.
According to the customer, the dryer completed a load earlier in the day without any issues. However, when they attempted to start another cycle later that same day, the dryer appeared completely dead and would not respond.
Diagnosis revealed a failed timer assembly that was preventing the dryer from operating.
Issue – GE Dryer Has No Power
The customer reported that the dryer appeared completely unresponsive. The appliance had worked normally earlier in the day, making the failure seem sudden and unexpected.
When a dryer will not start, many homeowners immediately suspect a tripped breaker or failed heating element. In reality, several components can cause a no-power condition, including the timer, door switch, thermal fuse, power supply, start switch, or wiring issues.
Proper diagnosis is essential before replacing parts.
Diagnosis
Our technician began by verifying the incoming power supply and checking the most common causes of a no-start complaint.
After testing the electrical circuit and dryer components, we determined that the timer assembly had failed internally.
The timer was no longer supplying power through the required circuits, preventing the dryer from starting even though proper voltage was present at the appliance.
Additional testing confirmed that the remaining components were operating correctly and that the timer was the sole cause of the problem.
- Verified proper power supply to the dryer
- Inspected wiring and electrical connections
- Tested start and safety circuits
- Diagnosed a failed timer assembly
- Confirmed no additional component failures
Repair Performed
Once the faulty timer was identified, a replacement timer was sourced and installed.
After installation, the dryer was fully tested to verify proper operation and cycle advancement.
- Removed defective timer assembly
- Installed new replacement timer
- Verified electrical connections
- Tested dryer start-up operation
- Confirmed proper timer advancement
- Verified normal dryer operation
Result
Following the repair, the dryer powered on normally and completed testing without issues.
The customer was able to resume normal use of the appliance the same day.
This repair demonstrates why proper diagnosis matters. While a dryer that won’t start can have many possible causes, accurate testing allowed us to quickly identify the failed timer and avoid unnecessary parts replacement.
