Here are the questions Whirlpool owners in Southern Ontario ask us most, with straight answers from our technicians:

What do F21, F02, F20 and F11 mean on my Whirlpool Duet front-load washer?
F21 (and F02 on older Duets) is a drain timeout — the number one Whirlpool front-loader fault. The fix is almost always the drain pump filter behind the lower front panel, jammed with coins, hair pins or a sock; if the code returns after cleaning, the pump has failed. F20 is a water-supply fault: check both taps, then the inlet valve. F11 is a communication error between the control board and the motor control — sometimes a connector, sometimes a board. Sud or F35 means excess suds or a failed pressure switch, usually from too much HE detergent.

Why is my Whirlpool Cabrio top-loader loud, leaking, or showing F51 or uL?
Cabrio and its twins (Maytag Bravos, Kenmore Oasis) are known for tub bearing failure — a roar on spin that gets louder over months, sometimes with water under the machine from the tub seal. uL means unbalanced, and if it’s every load the suspension rods are worn. F51 is a rotor position sensor fault, often the sensor itself or a loose connector at the motor. F1 is the control board. Bearings are repairable but labour-heavy, so on an older Cabrio it’s a judgment call we’ll make with you.

Why won’t my Whirlpool top-load washer spin or agitate?
On the current VMW-platform top-loaders, the usual failures are the lid lock (washer fills and drains but never spins), the shifter/actuator that switches between agitate and spin (F7E1 or F7E5), the drive belt, or the suspension rods. On the older direct-drive Whirlpools — the classic ones with the agitator and a lid switch — it’s the motor coupler, the lid switch or the clutch. Those older machines are simple, cheap to fix and worth keeping.

Why is my Whirlpool dryer running but not heating?
The heating element has broken, or the thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat have opened because of restricted airflow — the thermal fuse in particular is the classic Whirlpool dryer failure. A dryer that squeals or thumps has worn drum rollers, an idler pulley or a belt. Whatever we replace, we clean the internal lint path and check the vent on the same visit, because a restricted vent is what blew the fuse and will do it again.

Why is the Clean light blinking on my Whirlpool dishwasher?
A Clean light that flashes in a repeating pattern is Whirlpool’s dishwasher error code. Seven blinks is the one we see most — the control didn’t detect the water heating, pointing at the heating element, its thermistor or the relay on the board. Four blinks is a wash motor fault. A dishwasher that fills and hums but never sprays has a seized wash pump; one that won’t drain has a clogged sump, kinked hose or a failed drain pump. Whirlpool dishwashers also commonly fail at the door latch and the diverter motor.

My Whirlpool fridge is warm but the freezer works. Is it the compressor?
Usually not. On Whirlpool top-mount, side-by-side and French-door fridges this symptom is the evaporator fan, a defrost failure that’s iced over the evaporator (defrost heater, thermostat or the board’s defrost control), a stuck damper, or a thermistor. The compressor is running — the cold isn’t getting to the fridge side. We test the sealed system last. We’re ODP certified if it comes to that.

Are Whirlpool parts easy to get in Canada?
The easiest of any brand. Whirlpool Canada has the deepest parts network in the country, and the same parts fit Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana, Inglis and Roper. Our vans carry the high-turnover Whirlpool drain pumps, lid locks, thermal fuses, elements, fan motors and dishwasher parts, so a large share of Whirlpool repairs finish on the first visit. Anything else ships in a few days by your exact model number, and we return to install it with no second service call fee.

Is it worth repairing a Whirlpool appliance?
Nearly always. Whirlpool’s failures are well-known, the parts are inexpensive and available, and the machines themselves are built to be serviced. The exceptions are tub bearings on an old Cabrio, a sealed-system failure on a basic freestanding fridge, or a control board on a unit near the end of its life. We’ll tell you which before any work starts.

My Whirlpool is under manufacturer warranty. Should I call you?
Call Whirlpool Canada first. Warranty repairs must go through an authorized servicer or the manufacturer voids coverage. Pegasus is an independent repair company and we don’t do warranty work for any brand. Once your warranty has ended, we’re usually faster to schedule than the authorized network.
